This car was originally sold with a smaller engine, therefore, it was necessary for us to change and upgrade the drivetrain and suspension to be compatible and completely mechanically correct for a 1970 440 magnum powered Challenger.

The drivetrain was professionally rebuilt to ensure all internal parts either met or exceeded factory standards. New factory Mopar Performance Stage 5 cylinder heads were professionally matched to the camshaft and to the heavy duty transmission shift kit. A three row 26” heavy duty radiator was added.

Front disk brakes and a complete dual exhaust system were also added. We used Series 50 Flowmaster mufflers to reduce interior noise and to preserve the traditional Mopar muscle car sound.

Test drives seemed to easily throw you back to the muscle car “glory days” of 1970. Very exhilarating to drive.

All 440 magnum powered Challengers benefit greatly from a stable and well controlled suspension. We installed high performance QA1 shocks to help provide this important suspension control. These shocks are externally adjustable so you can easily tailor ride control and stability to suit different types of drivers and driving conditions. Compared to original equipment shocks, they substantially increase both the ride control and comfort. You can also improve cornering and handling by adjusting the front shocks to specifically suit the front suspension and rear shocks to better suit the rear suspension.

To be more practical, the engine was built to run on regular unleaded gas. We used a 2.76 gear ratio so that high speed freeway driving would be quieter and more comfortable.

To enhance the aggressive Mopar muscle appearance we added a rear spoiler, wide track tires on 15” Rallye rims and factory chrome dual exhaust tips.

After the restoration was completed, this Challenger was driven over 2,000 miles to help reveal mechanical weaknesses and to minimize future mechanical failures.

We are a licensed California used car dealer in San Diego. Our repair and restoration facility has been serving San Diego since 1979. We do routine service on many car models, but our true love and passion is the restoration of 1970 and 1971 Dodge Challengers and Plymouth Cudas.

This car is not an original “RT” Challenger, therefore, we decided to add a few enhancements and build a durable, good looking and fun to drive Mopar muscle car. The result is a sleek high performance Challenger that is a little more practical and comfortable than the original but does not compromise the pure power and exhilarating ride of a 1970 performance Mopar muscle car.
